Clubgolf East Lothian 2009
350 children participated in clubgolf Stage 1, 2 and 3 coaching groups in East Lothian this season delivered by: Dunbar, Haddington, North Berwick, The Glen, Tantallon, Gullane, Musselburgh Old and East Lothian Council.
Lots of the children also enterered the fun competitions on offer, joined clubs and gained handicaps. The newly estabalished East Lothian Junior Golf Fixture List included 16 fun competitions open to children with and without handicaps so as to increase the opportunites they have to play and practice. On average between 20 and 30 children, with and without handicaps, attended each of these fun competitions. Thanks to all the clubs for making their facilities available for these events and its is hoped they will all run again in 2010 possibly with a few additions to the schedule. Children enter into the clubgolf coaching pathway by participating in firstclubgolf. firstclubgolf is 6 introductory golf sessions, delivered using modified equipment. All Primary 5 children in East Lothian recieve firstclubgolf as part of their P5 PE curriculum. Children are then invited to progress on to clubgolf Stage 1 at a local club. Stage 1 offers 40 hours of coaching aimed at introducing children to the basics of the sport. Stage 1 is delivered primarily by PGA Level 1 Volunteer Coaches who attend a weekend training course so as to gain their coaching license. East Lothian has an ever growing army of qualified volunteer coaches who help to ensure that we can offer all children an affordable opportunity to learn to play golf. Golf continues to be extremely popular in East Lothian and we are always in need of more coaches so as to meet demand so if you are interested please get in touch!
